Tsavo Man-Eaters, lion pair in Kenya

The Tsavo Man-Eaters were a pair of notorious man-eating lions responsible for the deaths of workers on the Kenya-Uganda Railway.

In 1898, these predators claimed the lives of over 35 railway workers during the construction of the Tsavo River bridge.

The story of the Tsavo lions has become part of local folklore and inspired several movies and books.

They were eventually hunted down by Lieutenant Colonel John Henry Patterson, whose accounts brought fame to the incident.

Exceptionally, the Tsavo Man-Eaters displayed atypical behavior for lions, including a lack of mane on the males.
