Kariandusi prehistoric site, Archaeological site in Nakuru County, Kenya.

The Kariandusi prehistoric site contains numerous stone tools and fossils located near Lake Elmenteita on the southeastern edge of the Great Rift Valley.

Dr. Louis Leakey discovered this archaeological location in 1928, revealing stone tools dating back approximately one million years during the Lower Paleolithic period.

The stone artifacts found at Kariandusi demonstrate the technological capabilities of early Homo erectus groups who manufactured Acheulean hand axes in East Africa.

The National Museums of Kenya maintains the site, which includes a museum, nature trails, and guided tours explaining the significance of the archaeological discoveries.

Researchers identified signs of left-handed tool usage in the excavated hand axes, indicating the presence of handedness preferences among early humans one million years ago.
