Atang Senjaya Airbase, Indonesian airbase
Atang Senjaya Airbase is a military airfield in West Java equipped with runways and hangars for helicopters and aircraft operations. The facility has a practical layout with simple buildings and a runway roughly 1.4 kilometers long designed to handle various aircraft types.
The base emerged from early efforts to build Indonesia's air force capabilities and was originally operated as Semplak Airfield. It was renamed after Letkol Udara Atang Sendjaja, a pilot from Bandung who died in a helicopter accident in 1965 and became the namesake of the facility.
The airbase bears the name of Atang Sendjaja, a pilot whose legacy remains part of the identity of those who work here. Staff in uniform move through the base with a sense of shared purpose and dedication to their roles.
The airbase is partially accessible, with only certain areas such as the runway and some buildings open to visitors. It is advisable to contact the administration in advance since access is restricted for security reasons.
A small museum called Heritage Room opened in 2012 displaying aircraft models, documents, and photos of missions flown from the base. It offers insight into how helicopter operations at this location have evolved since its early years.
