Gandaria City, shopping mall in Jakarta, Indonesia
Gandaria City is a shopping mall in the North Kebayoran Lama district of South Jakarta, Indonesia. The building features wide walkways, natural light from large openings, and houses international brands, local boutiques, restaurants, cafes along a central retail street, and a cinema.
The mall opened in 2010, developed by PT Pakuwon Jati as part of a broader mixed-use project combining shopping, offices, apartments, and a hotel. A Sheraton hotel joined the complex in 2015, expanding the range of services on site.
The name Gandaria comes from an old Jakarta neighborhood that once stood in this part of the city. The public areas inside the mall regularly host performances and community events that bring visitors into contact with local creative life.
The mall is easy to reach by taxi, private car, or ride-sharing services, and parking is available on site. Shops, restaurants, and entertainment are all in the same building, so a full day can be spent here without needing to go anywhere else.
The cinema here was Indonesia's first with an IMAX screen, which made it a destination in its own right when it opened. Today, works by artists such as Jeff Koons, KAWS, and Yayoi Kusama are placed throughout the public areas of the building, turning a shopping trip into something closer to a gallery visit.
