Bonython Park, Urban park in North Adelaide, Australia
Bonython Park is an urban park spanning about 17 hectares along the River Torrens, featuring open lawns, walking paths, and a pond for model boats. The park includes an accessible playground, BBQ stations, toilet facilities, and parking areas for visitors.
The land was settled by European migrants in 1837, who established temporary camps named Buffalo and Coromandel on the site. These early settlements marked the beginning of European presence in this area.
The park carries the dual name Tulya Wardli to acknowledge the Kaurna people and their connection to this land. This naming reflects ongoing recognition of the site's original significance to the local community.
The park is easy to access with ample parking and features paths suitable for different mobility levels. A kiosk provides refreshments on weekends and during summer months.
Before European settlement, a billabong existed on this site, a natural water hole that the Kaurna people used for fishing. This body of water was central to the landscape before the area changed substantially.
