St Michael's Uniting Church

St Michael's Uniting Church is a church building on Collins Street in Melbourne designed in Lombardic Romanesque style. It features a tall square bell tower, rounded arches, and polychrome brickwork on the exterior, while the interior is organized with tiered seating areas.

The current building was completed in 1866 and replaced the original Independent Church from 1839, which was among the first churches established in Port Phillip District. This transition reflects how Melbourne's religious community grew and required a larger, more substantial structure.

The stained glass windows inside depict humanity's journey toward hope and were installed in 1988 for Australia's Bicentennial celebration. These modern artworks shape how people experience the interior and create a sense of reflection as they sit in the pews.

The church sits next to the 120 Collins Street office tower, making it easy to locate on the street. Regular services are held here, allowing visitors to step inside and experience the interior during worship times, though it is wise to check exact timing beforehand.

The church houses Mingary, a dedicated space established in 1999 that offers affordable counseling services through a partnership with the Cairnmillar Institute. This program demonstrates how the building serves the community in ways beyond traditional worship activities.
