The two-story Victorian Free Classical structure features a symmetrical facade with masonry balustrade and distinctive architectural elements from the 1890s period.
Built between 1890 and 1892 by Messrs Banks and Whitehouse under the NSW Colonial Architect's Office design, this building served as a central communication hub.
The building contained a time-keeping mechanism with a metal disc that lowered daily upon receiving telegraph signals from Sydney to mark precise time.
Located at 91 Crown Street, the former post office now houses various businesses including a café while maintaining its original architectural features.
The first floor originally functioned as the postmaster's residence, combining professional and residential spaces in a single government building.
