Roundhill Ski Area is a ski resort located near Lake Tekapo in the Mackenzie region, operating on terrain between 1350 and 2133 meters above sea level. The 550-hectare property features slopes served by lift systems and offers on-site facilities including equipment rental and a café.
Local farmers established the ski area in the 1960s as a winter destination for the region. Following management transitions, it reopened in 2001 under new ownership and has continued operating since.
The winter destination maintains strong ties to New Zealand's alpine sports traditions through its continuous support of local skiing communities.
The area is easily accessible by car with parking available at the base. Visitors should prepare for variable mountain weather conditions and bring appropriate clothing, especially for higher elevations.
The site features the Heritage Express Rope Tow, recognized as the world's longest and steepest rope tow system. This installation provides a vertical drop of 783 meters, making it a notable draw for experienced skiers.
