Lyons House, Private residence in Dolans Bay, Australia
Lyons House is a residence at 733 Port Hacking Road in Dolans Bay featuring a central elevated concrete pool structure integrated into its architectural design. The structure employs post-tensioned concrete techniques and offers expansive views of the surrounding landscape.
The house was constructed in 1967 under architect Robin Boyd's direction at the firm Romberg & Boyd on land that was formerly part of Thomas Holt's estate. The building represents a period when modernist residential architecture was gaining importance.
Architect Robin Boyd applied Late Twentieth Century Organic style principles throughout the design, drawing from modernist and Japanese architectural traditions. This philosophy shaped how the interior spaces relate to the surrounding landscape today.
The house is located on Port Hacking Road in a residential area with water views and is accessed from the main road. Since this is a private residence, access may be restricted and should be checked in advance.
Interior designer Marion Hall Best created specialized window coverings that remain distinctive features of the residence. Landscape architect Bruce Mackenzie simultaneously developed the garden with both native and exotic plant species.
