Green Point Observatory, Astronomical observatory in Oyster Bay, New South Wales, Australia.
Green Point Observatory is an astronomy facility near Oyster Bay with two telescopes for viewing the night sky. The larger instrument is 41 centimeters across, the smaller measures 35 centimeters, and there is a meeting space that holds about 100 people.
The Sutherland Astronomical Society founded this observatory in 1969 as part of the James Cook Astronomers Club. Later in the 1970s it became independent and developed into its own facility.
A community of stargazers runs this facility and regularly hosts talks and discussions about the cosmos. Visitors can connect with fellow observers and learn from their knowledge.
Access is from the intersection of Green Point Road and Caravan Head Road, from which you walk about 100 meters through the reserve. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes and prepare for natural conditions.
The facility received computer-driven upgrades to its 41-centimeter telescope in 2022 and underwent thorough maintenance during lockdowns. These modern improvements enable more precise observations and extended equipment lifespan.
