Royal George Hotel, Heritage hotel in Sydney, Australia
The Royal George Hotel stands as a two-story brick building at the intersection of Sussex and King Streets in Sydney's central district.
Built in 1903, the hotel incorporated the former Cuthbert's Patent Slip building from 1869 and changed its name from Patent Slip Hotel to New Wharf Hotel before becoming Royal George.
During the 1950s and 1960s, the hotel became a meeting point for the Sydney Push intellectual group, including notable figures like Germaine Greer and Robert Hughes.
The establishment reopened as the Slip Inn after a 5 million dollar renovation in 1997, offering both accommodation services and a public house experience.
Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark met his future wife, Mary, at this hotel during the 2000 Summer Olympics, leading to a royal marriage connection.
