Westpac Place, Commercial skyscraper in Sydney CBD, Australia
Westpac Place is a commercial tower in Sydney's business district with 33 floors and a distinctive roof featuring weather beacons. The structure displays a metal-clad base section, while the upper portion consists of a brightly lit white glass tower.
The site held importance in Sydney's port trade during the late 1700s and early 1800s, when it marked the waterfront edge. The later-built modern structure reflects the financial district's growth from historical harbor to contemporary city.
The building takes its name from the banking corporation and shapes the cityscape with its distinctive white glass tower that stands apart from the commercial district. Visitors recognize the structure by its characteristic illuminated roof, which has become a landmark of the area.
The building sits on Kent Street in the city center and is easily reached by public transport. The facility offers cafes inside and amenities like bike storage and changing rooms for visitors.
The building's roof features eight LED light bars that display air pressure in real time and automatically adjust brightness based on daylight. This visible weather station turns the roof into a functional art piece that daily reflects atmospheric changes.
