Tunks Creek bridge, Galston, Historic timber truss bridge in Galston, Australia
The Tunks Creek Bridge spans 20 meters across the valley with a McDonald timber truss design and sharp right-angle turns at both approaches.
Constructed between 1893 and 1894 by the NSW Department of Public Works, the bridge facilitated access for fruit growers in the Galston region.
The bridge exemplifies the engineering methods of early Australian settlement when local hardwoods were preferred due to limited steel availability.
The single-lane structure requires alternating traffic flow, managed by give-way signs at each end of the 5-meter-wide road surface.
As the shortest remaining timber truss bridge in New South Wales, this structure stands at precisely 19.99 meters in length.
