Colebee and Nurragingy Land Grant, Heritage site in New South Wales, Australia

Colebee and Nurragingy Land Grant is a rural property along Richmond Road featuring natural landscapes with Bells Creek running through it. The land is now owned by Transport for NSW and remains largely undeveloped, surrounded by industrial and residential areas in western Sydney.

Governor Macquarie granted this land to Aboriginal leaders Colebee and Nurragingy in 1819 as recognition for their role in the growing colony. This land grant was extraordinary because it showed how authorities honored certain Indigenous people for their service.

The site shows early meetings between Aboriginal communities and colonial authorities, revealing how Indigenous people practiced farming and managed the land. This connection to the past remains visible in how the landscape was shaped.

Access to the site is limited since it is private property in an actively developing area. Check conditions before visiting, as the rural location offers few facilities or services.

The property may contain buried archaeological evidence of Aboriginal occupation from before European arrival. Objects below the surface could tell more about how the land was originally used and lived on.
