Wollemi National Park, National park in New South Wales, Australia

Wollemi National Park is a protected area northwest of Sydney featuring deep canyons, sandstone cliffs, and dense rainforest within the Greater Blue Mountains region. The park covers vast terrain with varied landscapes, and many areas remain remote and difficult to access, keeping much of it in a wild state.

The area was established as a national park in 1979 to protect its natural diversity and wild character. In 2016, UNESCO added it to the World Heritage List, recognizing its global importance as a place of outstanding natural value.

The land holds deep meaning for the Gundungurra and Wiradjuri peoples, whose rock art and sacred sites remain visible throughout the park. These marks tell stories of thousands of years of connection between Indigenous communities and this territory.

The park can be explored through multiple trails that vary in difficulty, from easy walks to challenging hikes through remote forest areas. Before visiting, plan your route carefully and check current conditions, as weather can change quickly and some paths require good fitness levels.

In 1994, scientists discovered an ancient tree species growing in the park that survived since the age of dinosaurs. This rare plant grows only in this location and remains carefully protected and studied by experts to ensure its survival.
