Dharug National Park, Nature reserve near Wisemans Ferry, Australia
Dharug National Park is a nature reserve with sandstone cliffs and thick bushland on the northern bank of the Hawkesbury River. The terrain covers thousands of hectares with steep ridges, dense forests, and open areas that create a varied landscape for walking and exploring.
The area was home to the Dharug people for many centuries before European settlement changed the landscape. An old road built during the early British colonial period still runs through the park, marking a significant phase of its past.
The area holds numerous sacred sites and rock art created by the Dharug people, showing their deep connection to this land. These places remain important for understanding the traditions and knowledge of the original inhabitants.
The park has two camping areas with basic facilities for overnight stays surrounded by nature. Multiple walking trails allow you to explore on foot, with different routes offering varying levels of difficulty.
The park is home to several rare glider species that live in the tree canopy and come out only at night. These small mammals are hard to spot, but patient observers after dark can sometimes catch glimpses of them moving through the branches.
