Brooklyn Bridge, Road bridge in Sydney, Australia
The Hawkesbury River Road Bridge carries traffic across the river between Kangaroo Point and Mooney Mooney Point as part of the Pacific Motorway. The structure features three lanes in each direction and spans the waterway with a gradual descent from the southern to the northern bank.
Construction of the bridge began in 1973 to connect segments of the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway. It replaced earlier routes that required vehicles to use Peats Ferry Bridge.
The structure forms an essential part of the Pacific Motorway network, connecting Sydney's northern suburbs to the Central Coast region of New South Wales.
The bridge is easily accessible via the Pacific Motorway and clearly marked. Visitors wanting to view the structure should note that this is an active traffic corridor and safe vantage points are recommended.
The bridge foundations extend approximately 85 meters below the water surface using an innovative open steel trough girder design. This was the first structure worldwide to employ this particular construction method.
