Darling Downs Zoo

Darling Downs Zoo is a wildlife park in the Toowoomba Region housing over 100 species in naturalistic habitats. Animals from Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, and Australia live across multiple spacious areas.

Established in 1992, the zoo has evolved into a conservation center focused on protecting endangered species. Breeding programs and educational initiatives form the core of its approach to wildlife preservation.

The zoo serves the community as a place where visitors learn directly from caretakers about animal behavior and habitat needs through daily demonstrations. These sessions connect guests to wildlife from different parts of the world and show how each species fits into its environment.

Located roughly two hours west of Brisbane, the zoo is open daily from 9 AM to 4 PM with final entry at 3 PM. Plan time to walk through the different sections and dress appropriately for the weather.

The zoo is home to Balu, a Komodo dragon originally born at Prague Zoo who arrived in 2020. This large reptile is one of the main attractions and demonstrates how zoos work together across countries to protect rare species.
