Seal Harbour, Marine life exhibit at Sea World theme park in Gold Coast, Australia
Seal Harbour is a pool for sea lions and seals within Sea World theme park on the Gold Coast. The water has several sections with sandy bottom and a white sand beach where the marine animals live and spend their time.
The harbour opened in 2013 after the park decided to create a new space for up to 20 animals. The park had been showing seals since 1996 and built this facility to house the animals in a dedicated area.
The harbour reflects the park's long connection to seal shows and marine animal observation for visitors over many years. The way the water and viewing areas are arranged lets people watch the animals move and behave as they would in nature.
Visitors can watch the animals from elevated wooden boardwalks that sit above the water, giving a good view from different angles. Early morning tends to be the best time to see the animals moving about and being active.
Visitors can take part in supervised feeding sessions where they give fish to the animals themselves. These happen at specific spots around the harbour and offer a rare chance to interact closely with the sea lions and seals.
