Christ Church, Tingalpa, Historic Anglican church in Tingalpa, Australia.
Christ Church Tingalpa is a historic wooden Anglican chapel with weatherboard walls and a simple gabled roof covered in corrugated iron. The small building includes a vestry and features pointed arched timber doors that mark its entrance.
The original church was built in 1868, but a cyclone in 1885 destroyed most of the structure. Reconstruction in 1886 reused materials from the damaged building, showing how early settlers adapted and rebuilt.
The burial ground reflects the spiritual role this site played for early families in the region, with graves telling stories of those who built the local community. Walking through the grounds, you sense how central this place was to people's lives and deaths.
The building sits on Wynnum Road and now operates mainly as a wedding venue for private ceremonies. It is best to contact ahead if you wish to visit, as access is primarily for scheduled events.
The burial ground is among Brisbane's oldest Anglican cemeteries, dating back to 1868 when it first opened. It predates many of the general cemeteries that were established throughout the city in later decades.
