Pinkenba Wharf, Industrial wharf in Pinkenba, Australia
The Pinkenba Wharf extends into the Brisbane River on the north side, situated near the Gateway Bridge within the Port of Brisbane complex.
Built in 1898 following the railway extension from Ascot, the wharf served as an embarkation point for soldiers during World War I.
The name Pinkenba originates from the Turrbal Aboriginal word binkinba, referring to an area where land tortoises gathered.
Large ocean vessels dock at this industrial wharf due to height restrictions imposed by the Gateway Bridge, limiting access to other Brisbane terminals.
The wharf connects directly to a railway spur constructed in 1902, enabling efficient cargo transfer between ships and trains.
