Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges, Twin concrete road bridges in Brisbane, Australia
The Sir Leo Hielscher Bridges are two parallel concrete structures crossing the Brisbane River in Queensland. They carry multiple traffic lanes in each direction, connecting Eagle Farm and Murarrie on opposite sides of the waterway.
The first bridge opened in 1986 to handle growing river traffic demands. A second structure built alongside it launched in 2010, doubling the crossing capacity.
The bridges received their current name in 2010 to honor Sir Leo Hielscher, the chairman of Queensland Treasury Corporation who served in public finance since 1942.
These bridges operate with an electronic toll collection system. Traffic moves heaviest during peak hours, so allow extra time if crossing during those periods.
The bridge supports are engineered to resist heavy deflection under load. This structural design keeps the crossing smooth even when traffic reaches its busiest moments.
