Cathedral of St Stephen, Brisbane, Gothic Revival cathedral in Brisbane, Australia
The Cathedral of St Stephen stands with two sandstone towers and features stained glass windows imported from Munich throughout its cruciform structure.
James Quinn, the first bishop of Brisbane, initiated the cathedral's construction by laying its foundation stone in 1863, though work temporarily halted after completing the base.
Three distinct choirs perform at the cathedral, including an all-male ensemble established in 1950 that leads music during Sunday masses and major ceremonies.
Free guided tours operate each weekday at 10:30 AM, allowing visitors to examine the architectural details and learn about the cathedral's development through time.
The cathedral contains the Mayne window by Harry Clarke above the sanctuary, combining Brisbane tuff and freestone in its primary construction materials.
