Riparian Plaza, Mixed-use skyscraper in Brisbane, Australia
Riparian Plaza is a 53-story tower reaching 250 meters (820 feet) in height, positioned at a 45-degree angle to align with the Brisbane River waterfront. Inside, the structure houses office floors, residential units, parking levels, and public access areas.
Construction started in 2002 and finished in 2005, making this the final major project by architect Harry Seidler. The tower emerged during a period when Brisbane was reshaping its riverfront with contemporary tall buildings.
The building reflects contemporary design thinking about how tall structures can blend offices, homes, and shared spaces in modern cities. The mix of commercial, residential, and public areas shows a practical approach to urban living.
Access to the different levels is handled by 13 elevators that serve the various zones throughout the building. Visitors should note that parking levels are separated from the office and residential areas, requiring distinct access routes.
The building houses a recreation center with a swimming pool on the 39th floor, an unusual feature for an urban high-rise. Additionally, a spiral annexe attached to the side of the structure provides efficient vehicle circulation to the parking levels.
