Queens Gardens, Townsville

Queens Gardens stretches across 4 hectares with formal garden beds, open lawns, and tropical rainforest trees near the granite cliffs of Castle Hill.

The garden, established in 1870, began as a 40-hectare trial ground where European settlers tested food and economic plants during colonization.

The gardens maintain a collection of colonial ornamental plants featuring flowers, foliage, and fruits that reflect the nineteenth-century botanical interests.

Visitors can access the gardens through Paxton Street and Gregory Street entrances, utilizing facilities such as gazebos, playgrounds, picnic areas, and walking paths.

The site contains 166 plant species representing North Queensland dry rainforest environments, including an avenue of black bean trees.
