West New Britain Province

West New Britain Province extends over 20,387 square kilometers, featuring rainforests, beaches, active volcanoes, and several surrounding islands in the Bismarck Archipelago.

The province formed in 1976 after Papua New Guinea gained independence, with Kimbe designated as its administrative center and primary commercial hub.

The region maintains seven distinct tribal groups including Nakanai, Bakovi, Kove, Unea, Maleu, and Arowe, each preserving their traditional languages and customs.

West New Britain's economy centers on palm oil production, with extensive plantations near Kimbe producing a substantial portion of Papua New Guinea's agricultural exports.

Mount Ulawun, situated within the province borders, ranks among the most active volcanoes on Earth, reaching an elevation of 2,334 meters.
