Mount Albert Edward, Papua New Guinea

Mount Albert Edward is a summit in the Wharton Range featuring two distinct peaks separated by roughly 400 meters at an elevation of 3,990 meters. The higher peak provides sweeping views across the surrounding mountainous terrain.

The first recorded ascent occurred in 1906 when C A W Monckton reached the summit and established early exploration records. This climb marked the beginning of documented human access to this remote peak.

Local indigenous communities of Papua New Guinea maintain traditional connections to the mountain through their customs and environmental knowledge.

Access requires preparation and support from experienced mountain guides based in the Goroka region. Visitors should expect challenging conditions and a lengthy journey to reach this remote mountainous area.

The western peak displays a cross marker while the eastern peak contains a trigonometric station for geographical surveying. These distinct markings serve different purposes that visitors will encounter at each summit.
