Kīlauea Iki

Kīlauea Iki is a volcanic crater in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park featuring a solidified lava lake that fills the crater floor with dark, hardened rock. The site displays the aftermath of volcanic activity with visible steam vents and fissures running across the surface where groundwater meets residual heat.

The crater experienced a major eruption in 1959 that created the solidified lava formation visible on the crater floor today. This event marked a significant moment in the site's recent volcanic history and shaped the landscape visitors see now.
