Papailoa Beach

Papailoa Beach is a sandy stretch on Oahu's North Shore with shallow, clear waters protected by an offshore reef system. The shoreline is backed by dark volcanic rock formations that rise naturally from the sand.

The nearby surf spot called Himalayas was named in the 1950s by two surfers who were impressed by the towering waves they found there. The name reflected their excitement about discovering such powerful water conditions at this location.

The beach gained recognition as a filming location for the television series Lost, which transformed this secluded shore into a notable North Shore destination.

The beach can be reached via a marked public entrance near the western end of Papa'iloa Road, though there are no lifeguards or facilities available. Visitors should be prepared for a more natural setting without amenities.

The shoreline features a natural lava shelf that creates elevated viewing points for observing the Pacific Ocean and the powerful winter swells. This rock formation provides interesting perspectives on the seascape throughout the year.
