Laniakea Beach

Laniakea Beach is a sandy shore on Oahu's North Shore with clear waters and rocky areas that support abundant seaweed growth. The coastline runs alongside Kamehameha Highway and offers a wide sandy area suitable for walking and spending time by the water.

The beach gained attention in the 1950s when local surfers discovered its consistent winter waves. This led to its development as a notable location for surfing competitions and established its standing in the broader surfing community.

Hawaiian green sea turtles, called honu by locals, regularly rest on this shore and represent the island's deep connection to marine life. These visits to the beach are meaningful moments for both residents and visitors who value the natural balance of the place.

Parking is available on the other side of Kamehameha Highway, but crossing the road requires caution due to busy traffic during peak times. It is wise to stay alert and allow extra time for walking from your parking spot to the beach.

Local volunteers maintain marked protection zones with red ropes to keep safe distances between beachgoers and the endangered green sea turtles. These measures came about as a practical way to keep both the animals and visitors safe.
