Line 1 of the Guadalajara urban rail system, Light rail line in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Line 1 of the Guadalajara urban rail system runs for 15.5 kilometers from north to south, linking residential areas with the center. The route passes partly underground through the city and partly above ground along the former Avenida Federalismo.
The line opened on September 1, 1989 and was the first rail connection of its kind in the city. Its construction followed the redesign of Avenida Federalismo in the 1970s into a major transport corridor.
Line 1 stations feature contemporary art installations and exhibitions, including a dedicated gallery space at Juarez station for local artists.
Trains run daily and carry around 106,000 passengers. The line connects well with other routes and provides access to different parts of the city.
Platforms have been extended in recent years to allow longer trains with six cars to run. This expansion has notably increased capacity compared to the original four-car setup.
