Tommy Trojan, Bronze warrior statue at University of Southern California, Los Angeles, United States.
Tommy Trojan is a bronze statue of a warrior holding a sword and shield located at the intersection of Childs Way and Trousdale Parkway on the campus. The sculpture stands as a three-dimensional figure displayed in an open plaza area where paths and campus buildings converge.
The sculpture was created by artist Roger Noble Burnham and unveiled in 1930 during the university's 50th anniversary celebration. It was modeled after five university football players who represented the physical ideals of the institution.
Students and visitors gather at this central campus location to take photos and mark important moments in their university experience. The figure has become a symbol that represents the institution's identity and traditions.
The statue is located at a central campus intersection that is easy to reach on foot from most areas. Visitors should know that access may be restricted or heavily monitored during major sports rivalry events and competitions.
Five qualities are inscribed on the base of the figure describing the model student: Faithful, Scholarly, Skillful, Courageous, and Ambitious. These attributes continue to shape how the university community defines its identity and aspirations.
