Anderton Court Shops, Frank Lloyd Wright shopping center on Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, US
Anderton Court is a three-story retail complex on Rodeo Drive, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright with a distinctive ramp wrapping around an open parallelogram space. The building combines multiple retail areas across different levels, connected by a continuous ascending pathway.
The building was completed in 1952 as Frank Lloyd Wright's final project in Los Angeles. In 2004, it received designation on the National Register of Historic Places, recognizing its architectural significance.
The structure displays Wright's signature design principles through its distinctive inverted V-shaped front, standing apart from neighboring traditional storefronts. This architectural approach gives the location a separate identity among the many shopping centers in the area.
The center sits along North Rodeo Drive and connects easily to the surrounding pedestrian walkway, making it simple for visitors to reach the building. Entering the complex is straightforward, as the ramp provides a gentle, accessible route upward through the levels.
The building's exterior was transformed over the years from its original light buff color with copper accents to a white facade with black details. This change reflects adapting to modern retail requirements while the core architecture of the design remains unchanged.
