Cahuenga Pass is a mountain pass in the Hollywood Hills that links the Los Angeles Basin with the San Fernando Valley. The U.S. Route 101 and Cahuenga Boulevard run through the eastern section of the Santa Monica Mountains, forming the main corridors that travelers use to cross this area.

The pass was the site of the 1831 Battle of Cahuenga Pass, a fight between local settlers and the Mexican-appointed governor's men that left two dead, and of the 1845 Battle of Providencia, fought over whether to secede from Mexico; one horse and one mule were killed. Both clashes took place on the San Fernando Valley side near present-day Studio City. The route also formed part of El Camino Real, marked today by a Paseo de Cahuenga plaque along Cahuenga Boulevard.

The name Cahuenga derives from Kawé'nga, a Tongva village whose name probably means "at the mountain". A marker along Cahuenga Boulevard labels the route Paseo de Cahuenga, its Spanish name, recalling the pass's place on the historic El Camino Real.

The pass is easily accessible via U.S. Route 101, making it a straightforward route for drivers traveling between the two valleys. Expect heavy traffic during peak hours, as this corridor handles a significant volume of daily commuters.

Both 1831 and 1845 fights were small: the first left two men dead, the second killed only a horse and a mule. The pass also carried the El Camino Real, and a marker on Cahuenga Boulevard still labels the spot Paseo de Cahuenga.
