Lake Mission Viejo, Recreational lake in Mission Viejo, California, US
Lake Mission Viejo is a recreational lake in Mission Viejo covering approximately 124 acres of water with two public beaches called North Beach and East Beach. The waterway is surrounded by neighborhoods and supports a range of water activities for visitors.
The lake was created starting in 1972 when an earthen dam was constructed following Philip Morris Co's acquisition of Mission Viejo Co. The project reached completion in 1978.
The lake serves as a community gathering spot through seasonal boat parades in December and open-air concerts throughout summer that draw residents together.
Visitors can rent various watercraft at the main marina including rowboats with electric motors, sailboats, pedal boats, and kayaks for on-water activities. Both beach areas offer parking and facilities nearby for convenient access.
The lake maintains notably clean water by preventing urban runoff and using regular testing systems to monitor aquatic conditions. This approach keeps the water quality higher than typical urban water bodies.
