Architect E. Stewart Williams designed this home in 1947, creating one of the first examples of modernist residential architecture in Southern California. The project marked the beginning of a design movement that would reshape how people approached home building in the following decades.

The house is named for the two palm trees beside the piano-shaped pool, whose form came about by accident. Sinatra reportedly raised a flag with the Jack Daniel's whisky logo in the late afternoon to signal to neighbours that his parties were starting; guests included Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Marilyn Monroe.

The piano-shaped swimming pool was not planned: its outline came about by accident during construction. The house takes its name from the two palm trees beside the pool. Sinatra had asked E.
