Ecological Center of Sonora

The Ecological Center is a zoo and nature facility in Hermosillo that displays four main geographical regions of Sonora, including mountains, prairies, desert, and the Sea of Cortez. The space is organized to show the different habitats and ecosystems of these areas.

The center opened in 1985 as a state-run facility focused on environmental education in northwestern Mexico. It was created to help people learn about the natural diversity and ecosystems of the Sonora region.

The museum displays taxidermied animals and natural specimens that help visitors learn about the wildlife of Sonora's different landscapes. These collections show how diverse animal life is across the region's various environments.

The center is open from Wednesday through Sunday, with morning hours being the main visiting time. It offers different admission rates for various visitor categories and has enough space to spend several hours exploring the different areas.

The facility houses an astronomical observatory with a large telescope that hosts regular talks about celestial events. Despite urban light pollution, this feature allows visitors to learn more about the stars and sky above.
