The library comprises three interconnected black stone buildings on a hillside platform, featuring educational spaces and panoramic views of Medellín valley.
In 2007, King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain attended the inauguration of this library, funded partly by the Spanish government.
The library contains 12,000 books, forty computers with internet access, and an auditorium for readings, films, theater performances, and concerts.
Visitors can reach the library via the Medellín Metrocable system at Santo Domingo station on Line K, connecting it to the city center.
The structure includes intentionally small windows to create focused learning spaces while maintaining visual connections to the surrounding mountains.
