Barrio Villa Luz, Bogotá, Residential district in northwestern Engativá, Bogotá, Colombia.
Barrio Villa Luz is a residential neighborhood in the northwestern part of Engativá, one of the western localities of Bogotá. It is a mixed-use area where homes and small businesses coexist along narrow streets, with a few public green spaces scattered throughout.
The neighborhood was laid out in the early 1970s as a residential development, at a time when Bogotá was expanding rapidly and new areas were being opened up on the city's western side. Over the following decades, it gradually filled in with small buildings that were later modified and extended by their owners.
The streets are lined with houses painted in a wide range of colors, giving the neighborhood a lively but everyday character. Small shops and workshops sit between homes, so residents can handle most daily errands on foot.
The neighborhood is connected to other parts of Bogotá by several SITP bus routes, with main connections running along the western avenues. Visitors on foot will find most everyday services and shops within a short walk of the residential streets.
The National Police Club on Avenida Mutis is one of the few closed recreational clubs in this part of the city, reserved for members rather than the general public. Its presence in an otherwise ordinary residential area sets Villa Luz apart from comparable neighborhoods in Engativá.
