Biblioteca Pública Virgilio Barco, Public library in Teusaquillo, Colombia
The three-story circular structure integrates with the eastern hills of Bogota through interconnected terraces and gardens covering 36,812 square meters.
The library, designed by architect Rogelio Salmona and opened in December 2001, received National Cultural Heritage status in 2007.
The library contains specialized rooms for children, general reading, and Bogota studies, housing 150,000 volumes across different knowledge areas.
Located at Avenida Carrera 60 57-60, the library opens Tuesday through Saturday from 8 AM to 8 PM and Sundays from 10 AM to 5 PM.
The ceramic roof tiles of the building reference the ancient Quimbaya civilization amphoras, connecting modern architecture with pre-Columbian heritage.
