Guayabal de Síquima, Municipality in Cundinamarca, Colombia.
Guayabal de Síquima is a municipality in the western zone of the Eastern Mountains at about 1,630 meters elevation, situated across mountainous terrain. Located roughly 69 kilometers from Bogotá, the area connects by road to neighboring towns.
The municipality was founded in 1721 when Father Luis Calvo Vasallo established an initial settlement with simple structures around a central plaza. This founding marked the beginning of a stable community in the mountain region.
The four neighborhoods are named after indigenous leaders and reflect the area's connection to its native roots. This division shows how local identity today remains shaped by these historical connections.
The area is accessible from the capital, and several routes connect it with surrounding municipalities such as Villeta, Bituima, and Albán. The mountainous setting means visitors should expect road conditions typical of higher elevations.
The name 'The Golden Gate of the Central Magdalena' refers to its geographically strategic location between important regions. This designation reflects the municipality's role as a connecting point in the province.
