Libertador, Administrative district in Caracas, Venezuela
Libertador is an administrative district in Caracas that spreads across a large area with several neighborhoods such as La Candelaria, Baruta, and Caricuao. The district contains major financial and public institutions that form the economic infrastructure of the capital.
The district was established in 1901 and originally included the Vargas territory before changes came through constitutional reforms. The 1999 administrative reform redefined its territory as part of the Capital District.
The area houses major government buildings like the Miraflores Presidential Palace and the National Parliament, which shape the political heart of the city. These sites show how the country's administration and decision-making power are concentrated here.
The district is the commercial center of the city with shops, offices, and institutions spread across different locations. Visitors should know that moving between the neighborhoods takes time and getting oriented in the size of the area is helpful.
The area contains two national parks: El Ávila in the north with steep slopes and Macarao in the southwest, which give the city access to natural spaces. There is also the Botanical Garden of the Central University of Venezuela with its plant collection here.
