The Teatro Xicohténcatl features an Italian architectural design with dark quarry stone facade and accommodates 320 spectators across numbered seats and two levels of boxes.

The construction of Teatro Xicohténcatl began in 1870, and the theater opened its doors to the public on May 5, 1873, with subsequent renovations in 1886 and 1985.

The theater ceiling displays art nouveau paintings depicting the nine muses from classical mythology, representing different artistic disciplines and inspiration sources.
