Teatro Xicohténcatl, Historic theater in Tlaxcala de Xicoténcatl, Mexico

Teatro Xicohténcatl is a theater building in Tlaxcala de Xicoténcatl featuring Italian architectural design with a dark stone facade. Inside, numbered seats and two levels of boxes accommodate around 320 spectators.

Construction of the theater began in 1870 and it opened to the public on May 5, 1873. Renovations in 1886 and 1985 helped preserve the building through the decades.

The ceiling displays art nouveau paintings showing the nine muses from classical mythology, each representing different artistic disciplines. These images connect the space visually to the world of art and inspiration every time you look up.

The theater is located downtown on Benito Juarez Avenue and is easy to find in the city center. Check the schedule in advance to plan your visit around performances or guided tours.

In 1945, the theater presented its first major production, the comedy 'Seven Women' featuring actress Anita Blanch. This event marked an important milestone in the venue's performing arts history.
