Museum of Aerospace Medicine, Aviation museum in Hangar 9 at Brooks Air Force Base, San Antonio, US.
The Museum of Aerospace Medicine is housed in Hangar 9 and displays medical equipment and research materials related to aviation health. The building is a large wooden structure with enormous trusses from the World War I era.
The hangar was built in 1918 and is the oldest surviving aircraft storage facility of the US Air Force. It played a key role during World War I and the early days of aviation training.
The collection shows how doctors and engineers worked together to make flying safer for pilots over the decades. You can see the actual tools and machines they used to test and protect people in aircraft.
The hangar is located on the grounds of the former Brooks Air Force Base in San Antonio. The museum has not been open to visitors since 2011 when the base ceased operations.
The hangar was the last surviving building from the World War I period on the base and featured four large sliding doors mounted on rails. These massive doors could move multiple aircraft in and out simultaneously for takeoffs and landings.
