Greater San Antonio is a metropolitan region in southern Texas that spreads across eight counties and includes San Antonio and New Braunfels as principal cities. The settlements range from dense urban centers to suburban neighborhoods and smaller communities linked by a network of highways.
The region developed into a major urban center during the 1990s, as growth in industry and services attracted more residents. In the following decades, outlying counties and new suburbs expanded rapidly.
