Administration Building

The Administration Building is a Colonial Revival structure at Randolph Air Force Base featuring a central tower crowned by a ceramic-tiled domed roof. The structure houses administrative offices, a functional water tank facility, and a theater that accommodates about 1,200 people.

The building was constructed in 1931 by the United States Army Air Corps as the administrative center for Randolph Field, a primary pilot training facility. The structure was later listed on the National Register of Historic Places and remains a significant record of early American aviation history.

Personnel at the base refer to this structure as the Taj Mahal because of its striking architectural design, making it an unmistakable symbol that defines the military installation's appearance.

The building is generally accessible during working hours, though you should check with the base for current visiting conditions before your visit. Since the structure sits on an active military installation, visiting options may be limited, and it is best to inquire in advance about access.

A wooden replica of the Administration Building was handcrafted by retired base personnel in 1984 and equipped with a working electrical beacon. The miniature model is regularly displayed at military conventions and exhibitions.
