Morgan's Wonderland, Accessible amusement park in San Antonio, United States
Morgan's Wonderland is a theme park in San Antonio, Texas, covering approximately 25 acres with rides, play areas, gardens, and a catch-and-release fishing lake. The facility was designed so that all attractions are accessible to wheelchair users and people with different physical or cognitive conditions.
Businessman Gordon Hartman opened the facility in March 2010 after watching his daughter Morgan struggle to play with other children during a vacation. The site was designed as the first recreation center of its kind, where accessibility was central from the start.
The name honors Morgan Hartman, whose experiences inspired its creation, while the design allows families to enjoy attractions together regardless of physical abilities. Staff members receive specialized training to support guests with different needs and create a welcoming environment.
The park typically opens from late March through December and offers free entry for visitors with disabilities, while companions also receive reduced rates. Most days begin around half past ten in the morning and end in the late afternoon, with weekends and holiday periods drawing larger crowds.
In 2017, Inspiration Island was added, a water play area with special waterproof wheelchairs that visitors can use in shallow water. The water sections are kept at comfortable temperatures so that people with limited heat perception can splash around safely.
