Keystone Hotel, Historic hotel in Lampasas, Texas.

The Keystone Hotel is a two-story limestone structure with a metal roof and decorative stone arches integrated into its window designs in Lampasas, Texas. The building displays the characteristic architectural features typical of a mid-19th century commercial property in this region.

The structure was originally built in 1856 as the Star Hotel and underwent expansion in 1870 under owner J.L.N. Gracy, who added ten additional rooms with an exterior staircase. These renovations reflect the growing demand for lodging during the early development of Lampasas.

The building holds the status of a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and displays colonial revival architectural features typical of the 19th century in the Hill Country region. Visitors can observe the distinctive limestone construction with decorative stone arches framing the windows, reflecting the building style of that historical period.

The building is easy to access and its exterior features are clearly visible from street level, allowing straightforward viewing of the outside. Morning hours provide the best lighting for photographing the stone details and arch features.

During recent renovation work, builders discovered the original water well from 1856 that had been filled in when the town received municipal water services. This discovery shows how the town's infrastructure evolved in the decades following the hotel's construction.
