Hanna–Barbera Land, Cartoon theme park in Spring, Texas, United States
Hanna-Barbera Land was an amusement park in Texas built around animated character attractions and experiences. The facility included a Scooby-Doo-themed roller coaster, a character carousel, and an interactive entertainment center called Funsonium where visitors could play games and explore.
Taft Broadcasting opened the park in 1984 as part of its entertainment ventures. The operation closed after just two seasons in 1985 when economic pressures and competing attractions made it unsustainable.
The park brought animated characters from television into a physical space where visitors could encounter them directly. Families experienced their favorite cartoons as tangible, three-dimensional environments rather than just screen images.
The park operated daily with rides and attractions spread across the property for visitors of all ages. The layout was straightforward, making it easy to navigate between the main areas without extensive walking.
The Funsonium entertainment center combined arcade-style games with continuous Scooby-Doo cartoon screenings, offering an early version of interactive entertainment. This blend of play and entertainment viewing was ahead of its time for theme parks in the early 1980s.
