The institution, which operated from 2000 to 2011, underwent a 30 million dollar renovation before opening as a Smithsonian affiliate museum.
The building displays Spanish Romanesque and Art Deco architectural elements, earning recognition as a Texas State Antiquities Landmark in 1984.
